Oaklane Colony School

Our school is part of the Hanson School District in Alexandria, South Dakota.  Our school is located on the Oaklane Hutterite Colony about twelve miles southeast of Alexandria, South Dakota.

For the first seventeen years I taught here, we were in a little old fashioned "one room schoolhouse on the prairie."

We are now in a lovely new building on the south side of the colony.   We have two very large classrooms for "English" school and  two large classrooms for German School.   We have three smaller classrooms, a large library and several lovely bathrooms.

We have divided our work load and now have several staff members here.    This is how we are divided:

Mr. Flyger:   Grades K - 4

Mrs. Penny Weisz:  5-8 Language Arts and Title 1/2 time.

Mrs. Lori Reitzel:   5-8 math, science, and social studies.    Mrs. R. is here in the afternoon.  She teaches in town (Alex.) in the morning.

We are like one big family.   We enjoy doing art, reading, and going on nature hikes.   For recess we like to play Antie I over over the schoolhouse  porch roof.   We also like to play Captain May I; Red light Green light; and Kick the Can.   We like to go on Nature Hikes.

We really enjoy it when the weather is bad and we get to stay inside for recess.   We enjoy musical chairs, I spy, and doing jigsaw puzzles.   Each classroom has several computers and we enjoy playing on the computers.   Students do not have internet access.

We enjoy company.   Stop by and visit us and sign our guestbook when you come!
